What's In The Bible?

Pin It Now!

"After creating VeggieTales®, I knew it was time to take kids deeper into the Bible. To help them laugh and learn their way thru the BIG story of God's love for them. Join me on the journey thru the WHOLE Bible — with Buck Denver asks…What's In the Bible?" - Phil Vischer

The holidays are coming VERY quickly, and I really wanted to share with y'all what to us has been a relatively new discovery.  Have you heard about a series for kids called What's in the Bible?  Ok seriously y'all...I LOVE Phil Vischer, and have been a fan of Veggietales ever since I used to blare the music in the backroom of the Family Christian Store where I was an ICS for years...about 10 years ago.  Anywho, Veggietales did, and always will hold a special place in my heart.  Here is where I honestly admit that when What's in the Bible? first came out, I skimmed over them.  I think I was a bit leery of the puppets honestly, although now I know how much of a mistake I was making!  What's in the Bible is Phil's new way of teaching the Bible...not just the easy things and ideas we may learn in Sunday School, but more in depth about the hows and whys of the Bible while keeping it fast paced, funny, and VERY entertaining.

As you know, I had the AWESOME opportunity to attend the Relevant Conference this year.  When I found out that What's in the Bible? was going to be a sponsor, I broke down and bought DVD 1 about 2 weeks before the conference so that I would be familiar with the product.  We sat down one night with pizza and the DVD, Neil and I not knowing what exactly was about to start for our family.  I was amazed at not only how much we ALL enjoyed that movie or the awesome songs and humor, but Neil and I BOTH learned things!  We all have been quoting from the movie, and my kids can now answer questions like;  What is primeval history? What is a testament? How many writers wrote the Bible, and how long did it take?, etc.  Here is the first 5 minutes of DVD 1, so you can see what I mean, and get a feel for things.

See what I mean?  Let me tell you, it just keeps getting better from there!  LOL  Oh, I should also mention that while trick or treating this year, Bubba B declared that it was "more fun than American Idol"  hehehe.  Phil has said that What's in the Bible? is kinda like the Muppets go to seminary...I can totally see that!  What's in the Bible? was awesome enough to give all of the attendees the What's in the Bible CD, full of songs from the first few DVD's, and I am not ashamed to say that when I pulled in my driveway at home, I was on the 4th time listening to the CD...and no, my kids weren't with me.  ;)  So far our favorite song remains to be "Genesis", but we love them all!

This series is far from being completed, but eventually the DVDs will cover Genesis-Revelation.  So far, six DVD's have been released.  DVDs 1-5 cover Genesis-2 Samuel, and there is also a DVD containing an awesome Christmas special.  The Christmas special will answer questions like Why do we cut down trees and hang stockings for Christmas, as well as explains who Saint Nicholas was.

What's in the Bible? has been great enought to offer an abreviated version of the Christmas special for you to view.  Kick back with a cup of coffee and enjoy previewing the special...I would be willing to bet that you will learn something!  I know I did.  :)

Hopefully you have enjoyed my review of What's in the Bible?  They are running a great deal currently.  If you click on the button at the top of this post, or the sidebar of my blog, you can order the set of all 6 DVDs for $39.95  :)  If you order them, be sure to come back and let me know what you think!

*This post is made up of my own thoughts and opinions.  I was not compensated to write about the product, I just really am THAT in love with the series!  I will get a small commission if you order through one of my affiliate links*

...and I won't try to either...  I know that when people do some things, they don't know backstories, or maybe they don't even care, but when stealing pumpkins off of porches, do you think they even pause for a second to consider that they are turning this...

...Into this...

The kids spent the night with my mom last night, but when they get home, I will have to try to explain to them that some people do mean things, for reasons we don't understand...My husband also let me know that we were not the only house hit...there were multiple houses hit down the side street.  It could be alot worse, but very sad just the same.  :(

The Relevant Conference: Blessing my Family, Engaging the World

It's almost here!!!  Relevant 2011 is only a few days away!!  I am very late int he game doing this, but I didn't want to miss out.  :)  Here is my list of 10 things my Relevant roomies should know about me!

1.  I am totally NOT a morning person.  Seriously, I envy those moms who wake up early in the morning, drink their coffee, and read the paper before the kids wake up, but in reality I generally have to drag myself out of bed!

2.  I tend to sleep with my iPhone...yeah it's a bit weird, but generally when I lay down, I check my e-mail/twitter one last time before bed, so it sleeps with me.  I may or may not have been known to cuddle it like a teddy bear when sleeping in the past.

3.  I generally don't take a long time to get ready...my hair is pretty much gel and go  :)

4.  I hardly ever wear makeup in everyday life, however, I will be wearing it at Relevant.

5.  I am a photographer at heart, so don't be surprised if you see me constantly shooting pics even though it's only with my point and shoot.

6.  I hate talking on the phone.  Seriously, this is one you may not guess since I was a medical receptionist for years, but I even make my husband order the pizza.  The exceptions are my husband and my Mom...both of which I can talk on the phone to for an hour and not even blink.  LOL

7.  My husband claims that I sometimes snore; this however is untrue.  If you claim that he is correct, I may be tempted to insist that you are secretly in cahoots with him, and not believe you.

8.  If I stay up REALLY late, I sometimes tend to talk VERY fast and ramble on and on...

9.  It is quite possible that I will show you 10000 pictures of my kids, as well as one of each dog and our bird over the course of the conference.  Consider yourself warned.

10.  This is only my second blogging conference, the first being BlogHer 2010, and my first ever blogging conference where I don't know anyone in person...I admit I am a little nervous!

Hope you enjoyed getting to know me a little more!  I can't wait to meet everyone in a few days at Relevant 2011!!!!

General Mills and Sam's Club are helping in the fight against breast cancer!

Pin It Now!

Unfortunately, most of us know someone that has been affected by breast cancer...it could be family, friends, or even yourself.  Dealing with the disease in any capacity makes have one thing in common...the wish to fight it!  We aren't alone with this wish!  As you probably know, October is breast cancer awareness month.  I personally believe that awareness is the number one weapon we currently have against this disease in which early detection is CRUCIAL!

Did you know that for 5 years, General Mills has partnered with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Foundation to bring breast cancer support to local communities, and this year they are making their annual donation of $2 million to the foundation to advance breast cancer research and support education and community outreach projects?  You can help make a difference by buying products you already love!

Purchase specially-marked General Mills products like Cheerios and Fiber One 90 Calorie Brownies at your local Sam’s Club and help decide how half of that contribution will be donated by voting at PinkTogether.com from now until April 14, 2012.  General Mills’ donations will be divided between two important Komen programs: theTreatment and Assistance Program, which assists women in securing care they otherwise may not be able to afford, and Prevention Research, which helps unlock the keys to preventing breast cancer. Voting results will be announced on Mother’s Day 2012.

As if that's not awesome enough, General Mills and Sam's Club have provided a $25 Sam's Club gift card for one of my readers!!

Here's how to enter:

Be sure to leave a separate comment for each entry. The giveaway will run through 11:59pm eastern October 30.

The winner will be chosen using random.org, and announced November 1.

Busch Gardens- Pass Members Appreciation Presentation

>> Saturday, September 17, 2011

Pin It Now!

Hey y'all! I just wanted to fill everyone in on some on some of the cool things just announced at the Pass Members Appreciation Presentation.

After starting us off with a free breakfast of muffin and strudel, coffee and orange juice, the presentation began. The two main subjects of the presentation were Howl O Scream and the new coaster that is opening in 2012.

The Howl o Scream presentation was great. This years theme is "The Dark Side of the Gardens" which will be getting away from the more family friendly HOS of recent years, and going back to the very dark, very scary roots of HOS. There is a new character this year called the "Lady of the Gardens", and if you have walked down the San Marco bridge in the last month, chances are you have heard her theme playing. If you are looking at coming to HOS with younger kids, come during the day. The kids will still be able to see all of the decorations, and will be able to enjoy Count von Count in Sesame Street Forest of Fun, as well as be able to see Jack preform during the day in Ireland.

If you are looking for something that promises to be very dark and scary, then stick around after HOS starts in the night. This year the mazes will be back, but some will be revamped as well as having 3 new mazes. This year the catacombs maze has doubled in size, and Bitten (the vampire themed maze) will only be 1 large maze due to the construction of the new coaster. This year we will see 3 new mazes as well. Deadline is an "old world Pompeii" theme with a new spin. The theming of the new maze under Escape from Pompeii will be zombie themed with the spin being that a new subway system is being excavated in Pompeii. Fear Fair will make a reappearance in Festa Italia this year. Some may remember the clown themed maze from years ago. Also this year will be the new maze that goes through the Europe in the air building called "13". From what I have seen, this looks to be the most anticipated of the new mazes. 13 will play on 13 of the biggest fears people face, and evidently is based on one of the original HOS attractions called "Dark Tower".

The scare zones are coming back this year as well! They will be fully immersive using lights, fog, and sound effects. The scare zones this year will be Unleashed (werewolf themed), Stichin' Time (monster themed), a chainsaw & spider themed zone which I missed the name of, the clowns in Festa Italia, and a new scare zone on the upper path through Scotland which will have a scarecrow harvest theme to it.

The shows this year will be Jack is Back which has a new look, Fiends in the Festhaus is back, and my personal favorite Monster Stomp which has a few new twists.

There will also be a "Dark side of the Garden" shop in Germany with themed merchandise.

The next half of the presentation centered around the new roller coaster opening next year called Verbolten. I should also mention here that the VP of engineering, Larry Giles, said that Verbolten WILL be opening next year and on time! If you frequent Busch Gardens, or follow the news about it, you will know that this is a HUGE statement for him to make after the whole Mach Tower drama. The theming of the ride will center around a tour through Germany. As soon as you enter the queue line, you will be emerged in the theming of taking a nice ride through the German country side, but will be thouroughly warned NOT to enter the Black Forest. When boarding, you will step onto a train that is 2x8 and themed around a vintage German sportscar. You will start out on a nice ride through Germany, but soon your gas pedal sticks, and you careen off on a path through the Black Forest. After getting out of the highly themed Black Forest, you will shoot uphill and find yourself looking down on the Rhine River, and going down a 90' hill; bigger than the Big Bad Wolf's. The minimum height for Verbolten will be 48". The coaster will reach speeds in excess of 50mph, and the restraint will be a lap bar. As much as I miss the BBW, and always will, I am getting more excited about Verbolten. One thing I am VERY happy to see is the low height limit and the promise that this will replace BBW as many children's first coaster.

That's pretty much the highlights...If I have misspellings, please forgive them as I am blogging this from my iphone. I will say you get odd looks from security when they check your bag and find a wireless keyboard... I am sure I have been getting very odd looks from people walking past me in the Festhaus as I type this too. LOL Hope you enjoyed hearing about it all...I may have a bit of video to share after I get home, and will have lots more to share after attending the VIP Fright Night event for the HOS kickoff next Friday!!

Who will be here you ask?  Well if you look at a weather map right now she is hard to miss!  I am talking about Hurricane Irene.

Have I ever mentioned I live in Southeast Virginia....  *sigh*  Living in a coastal area as I have all my life, you get used to hurricanes coming and going.  Honestly I don't usually pay attention to potential hurricanes that may hit us because more times than not, they veer off East into the ocean.  I have to admit Irene has my attention, and has for days.  I did my shopping yesterday; stocking up on bottled water, canned veggies, tuna, and peanut butter.  Tomorrow's objectives include filling both trucks with gas, filling my grandmom's car with gas, catching up ALL of my laundry *faint*, and getting everything off of the garage floor (our garage floods).

I plan to update everyone via twitter, and blogging HOPEFULLY as long as the cell towers are online!  Thank goodness for my iphone!  I put out a call on twitter earlier asking if anyone wanted to ship me a Verizon Ipad2 so I could be more accessible during and after the storm, but funny enough no one jumped at the chance.  Go figure!  ;)

You know that sad thing is that there has been a raging fire in the Dismal Swamp, so the words "smoke cloud" are a normal part of our forecast for the last few weeks, then we have the earthquake the other day...NOW we have Irene to deal with.  UGH.

Is anyone else in Irene's path?  If so PLEASE be careful, and keep us all updated as much as possible!!  Stay safe everyone!!

My biggest little tip...

Pin It Now!

Ok so I admit it, I am a water snob...I don't like tap water, and only will drink certain bottled water. My favorite water for the last year or so has been Smartwater. I really do love it, and the fact that it has electrolytes added, just makes it better...My biggest problem was that this cap....

...is the best cap ever, however, it only comes on the smaller bottles. Seriously, I don't know what the deal is with this cap, but I drink SO much more water using one than just drinking from the bottle. After a while of buying the smaller bottles 2 at a time instead of one big bottle (just for the cap) I made the life changing realization that the necks on all of the Smartwater bottles were the same size!! That means that I could unscrew this top, and screw it on even the 1.5liter bottles like this...
TADAH! :D Ok so maybe that wasn't Earth Moving for everyone, especially if you aren't a Smartwater drinker, but I have shared this little tip with a few people and always get a response of shock and amazement. ;) Happy water drinking!!

The Relevant Conference: I'm Going!

Guess what I just got in my e-mail...a shiny new ticket to The Relevant Conference, that's what!  I can't tell y'all how excited I am to be going!  I was quite disappointed that I missed the opportunity to buy a ticket this year, however added my name to the waiting list and said a prayer.  I REALLY wanted to go, but on the other hand I knew that if it was God's will, then it would happen.  I have yet to buy my train ticket, or book a room (anyone still looking for a roommate??  ;D  ), but just having the ticket puts a HUGE smile on my face!

Let me know if you are going to be there, I would LOVE to meet some of y'all!  :)

Pin It Now!

Our Tadpoles!  Seriously...One of the best things about homeschooling is to find a subject that the kids are interested in, and stick with it for a while...We have been reading "Tadpoles & Frogs" an Usborne book...(I REALLY need to do a blog post on how much I *heart* Usborne, but that's for another day...)  I started doing some research on tadpoles because, come on, how cool would it be to let the kids witness the development of a tadpole from current stage to adult...I found multiple places to order tadpoles on the web, and some ranged from $2-$10 each, however, when you add the overnight shipping charge, you end up paying around $40 for a few tadpoles!  I checked the local petsmart, and such, but couldn't find them.  Our next stop was the petstore we got our Jenday conure Bella from.  (I really need to do some pet intro posts huh?)  I didn't have high hopes since I didn't see any tadpoles while parusing the fish department, so I did the only thing I could do...I got my hubby to ask.  LOL  Not only did they have tadpoles, but they had a HUGE pond full of them, and they were 3 for $3.50!!  SCORE!
I really wish that I could tell you that they have some awesome names like Huey, Dewey, and Louie, or even Lenny, Tuck, and Ming Ming, however they so far remain nameless.  I do have to mention that this may not be a bad thing since I am scared to death that I am going to kill them.  Seriously, I have kept MANY types of animals in my day, and I don't think I have ever been so scared that I were going to quickly kill them.  I have already told the hubby that he has to get up first in the morning and come check on them.

On another note, I hope to keep everyone up to date on the status of our little tadpoles with weekly updates...HOPEFULLY they will live, and you can all experience the awesome metamorphasis with us!  I also promise that hopefully there will be better pics...I took these at around 12:30am...not my best work...   ;)
So don't forget...before you lay your head on your pillow...be sure to say a little prayer our little guys pull through!

Enjoy candles that are kid and pet safe!

Pin It Now!

Hey everyone!  I have been given the awesome opportunity to tell you all about Enjoy brand flameless candles.  I have always LOVED candles, but when the kiddos came along, my candles were greatly reduced.  Not only did I have to keep mental tabs on each one for fear of a fire risk, but I could only put them in places where little hands couldn't reach.  As we all know, those places are few and far between.  Two years ago we decided to get a bird, and with that decision, my candles all had to go away.  I love our bird, but I can't tell you how much I missed the look/feel candles gave to the atmosphere of the house.  When I was offered the opportunity to review Enjoy flameless candles, I jumped at it!  The look and feel of candles, but flameless so they are safe for kids and pets?  That's Awesome!  I must admit that I was kind of scared that when I turned them on it may have the effect of sticking a flashlight in a candle, but that was SO not the case!  I can't tell you how amazed I was by the look of these candles.  Enjoy candles come in a variety of colors, textures, sizes, and scents.  What I think is the coolest thing about Enjoy candles is the Triple LED technology and special built in computer chip to create a realistic glow and flicker!  Not only that, but the computer chip also allows the candle to offer more battery life than comparable candles using only one LED.  Enjoy candles are available in many retail stores, and on their website http://www.enjoylighting.com

Enjoy has been generous enough to give one of my lucky blog readers not one, but two of their flameless candles!!

Finding perspective in the world ...

>> Thursday, April 7, 2011

Pin It Now!

I think finding perspective, and being thankful are two of the biggest struggles we face...I know at least for me, I have a tendency to complain when things aren't going my way, but not nearly as often do I stop and thank God for all of the blessings he has bestowed me.  Today was a perfect example.  My day started with the kids calling me out of my bed...in the scope of our first waking hour, Bubba B had come in crying twice because he said sorry to the princess for who knows what and evidently she either didn't acknowledge him at all, or not to his liking...The Princess came in crying when he stepped on something in the mess of the floor, and her foot was under it, so there was a little skinned part...I don't remember why else "MOMMY" was being screamed, but I could tell it was going to be "one of those days."  On the way into the kitchen to pop their waffles into the toaster, I paused long enough to update my twitter status..."Today is already one of "those" days...praying the day gets better"  About a minute after posting that, I pulled the toaster from under the cabinet and a bottle of worcestershire sauce fell from the counter onto my foot...

Here is the thing though...there was nothing really all that wrong with my day...my family is healthy, the sun is shining, it was going to get up to 80 degrees...a good day overall...the problem really was more internal...my mood, my lack of thankfulness and perspective.  We all get that dose of perspective when things like the disaster in Japan happen.  We start thinking about all the people effected, what we can do to help, and sometimes even try to imagine how they must be feeling...That is all fine and dandy until we step away from the tv footage, or the computer, or put down that magazine to yell at the kids for jumping on the furniture, or the dog to stop barking...Then we go about our day thinking about how rotten it started out, and wishing it would get better.  I had some of that perspective slap me across the face today...I have been reading  One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are, and had already planned on started Multitude Mondays this coming Monday...I am trying to be thankful, but on a morning like this morning it wasn't even crossing my mind.  I had dropped my Grandmom off at her doctors appointment, and the kids and I were sitting in the parking lot when Neil called...My Dad's old neighbors had a house fire this morning...the house is actually only 2 blocks away from where I am sitting right now...sitting in the grass in my Grandmoms backyard, watching my kids run around playing Wild Krats.  Two blocks away, in the early morning there was a fire and one man died, and although his wife was rescued, last I heard, she is not expected to make it.  When the firefighters got there, the couples son had been trying to fight the fire with an extenguisher, and had tried to go back inside, but it was too hot...I should also mention that the family did have 2 smoke detectors, but neither were working...I can't imagine what that family is going through right now...

Why is it that we gripe and complain over the smallest thing that goes wrong in our day.  If you think back to yesterday, or this morning and were to ask the bad points, or the points that didn't go as planned they may roll off your tongue, but if I ask the good things, the things you were truly thankful for in the same period of time, would you be able to answer as smoothly, or would you have to stop and think?  We need to remember how blessed we are, and remember to thank God, even in the rough patches.  Even when everything looks like it is going downhill, even if you feel like you have hit rock bottom, God is there with you.  He has his arms around you as you as you sit crying because there is no way out, and he is there to lift you up when the time comes.

Rejoice always,  pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessaloninans 5:16-18 NIV

Today was the day that my sister had been counting down to for weeks...her son's favorite TV character, Hip Hop Harry, was coming to Busch Gardens for the weekend.  I was excited, not because of Hip Hop Harry as much, but because my Dad, stepmom, both little sisters and their boyfriends, nephew, and cousin and her family were all going too.  I was hoping to spend the day with them all, live tweeting from Busch Gardens as usual...Unfortunately, we left pretty much right after Hip Hop Harry's show due to the weather...it was cold, and there were periodic downpours...Oh Well...

HOWEVER Hip Hop Harry was a hit.  :)  The kids had a great time at the show, and Princess K, Bubba B, and my nephew all got to go up on stage and dance with Harry at the end of the show!!  How cool is that!!  LOL  Here is a video of them all dancing...the little one looking around the whole time is my nephew, Princess K has on a pink shirt with brown sleeves, and Bubba B is breaking it down in a light and dark gray shirt with white sleeves... this is my video from the side of the stage...

And here is the video from the Busch Gardens youtube account...you can see the kids dancing at the end of the video...

Here we are with Hip Hop Harry after the show :)

Pin It Now!

...me not so much, but Neil's philosophy is that he will try anything once.  He also loves the prospect of trying...well...somewhat unconventional foods.  Today was a day he waits for annually...My family owns a restaurant, and one of our suppliers has an annual "critter day" where they invite employees, and customers to lunch for a buffet of unconventional means...I mean really not everyone can say they have been to a buffet that looks like the one above (yes that is an actual picture of the buffet LOL)...and yes, I realize that most people would want to stay away from that same buffet...LOL  Like I mentioned before...I am far from adventurous when it comes to my food...in fact, I can be quite picky when called for...HOWEVER Neil LOVES trying new things...his favorite on the buffet this year was the ostrich.  I didn't try it, but it honestly looked nothing like poultry...it looked more like a steak!  I stuck to the venison and potatoes, and collards and grits...YUM

After eating, Neil had talked to our rep and gotten someone lined up to tour the distribution center!  The kids LOVE it, and so did we!  They have millions of dollars in goods stored currently in the warehouse, and it only takes about 14 days to turn it ALL over!  We got to tour the dry goods section, refrigerated section, and frozen section...we did NOT however venture into the ice cream room which measures -0 degrees.  (I did however learn that they have to keep the ice cream that low because the high sugar content softens it if not)  Who knew!

One of the coolest things on the tour was the robot...For some things that they stock that they break the case of, or aren't big sellers, they store on 2 rows of shelves.  Basically, when you have product to go there, you scan the pallet you are putting it on, scan the product and put it on the platform in front of you...the rest is totally automated...the system analyze the sales data and for the things that sell the least, puts the product on a vacant shelf at the top, and the things that are going to be needed get put lower...then as things are ordered, it will automatically put things on the bottom shelves so the employees can easily reach them...AMAZING!

We cut the tour a few minutes short b/c we had to find a potty, but we had a LOT of fun.  :)  SO what's the most exotic/different thing you have tried?  How was it?

The battle of anonymity...

Question mark made of puzzle pieces

When starting my blog a few years ago, one of the things I had to really ask myself is how anonymous I wanted to stay.  Bloggers range on the subject from those who do not disclose the names of their kids, where they live, etc, to those who clearly state their last name, kids' names, where they live, etc.  Another thing to consider is how much of my blogging life I wanted to share with friends and family.  What I finally decided was to give the kids nicknames, and only state the general area we live.  For a long time I was VERY hesitant to post anything that would narrow down our location too much, or give out any clues about our family.  I will say that on that subject, foursquare pretty much narrows down the area we live, sometimes more than I like, however I still use, and enjoy it.  :)  I also made the decision to separate my "normal" life from my blogging life.  My personal facebook page is not linked with my blog page, some of my friends and family know that I blog, however the only ones who have actually seen it are my husband, my mom, and my friend Lis.

This may all soon change.  Although the line sometimes gets blurred one way or the other temporarily, it may be shattered soon.  I cannot make an official announcement yet, but my family's business, and quite possibly myself are going to be on TV in the coming months, and I don't want you to miss it!  :)

SO be on the lookout for my awesome announcement in the coming month.  :)  I wish I could post it now, but the production company doesn't want things announced yet, but AS SOON as I get clearance I will be posting it on my blog!  Can't wait to share my good news with y'all!

Pin It Now!

Maybe it's just me, but I am amazed at something that happened on twitter tonight.  In light of the tragedy in Japan, I happened on a re-tweet from someone that stated "How you can - . For every retweet, @ will give $1 to Japan quake victims, up to $100K."  I personally thought it was great and quickly re-tweeted the message.  I personally am not a follower of Bing, and honestly have never used the search engine, but I wanted to make sure the message was valid.  I was amazed when I saw that not only was the message valid, but that they tweeted this message a couple of hours later; "We apologize the tweet was negatively perceived. Intent was to provide an easy way for people to help Japan. We have donated $100K."  Negatively Perceived?!?  How can a tweet that raises both money and awareness for the horrible devastation in Japan be negatively perceived?!?  After doing a bit more reading, I found that people were evidently "appalled" at this marketing campaign in the face of this tragedy...Now growing up in a family that has owned a small business for over 70 years, I am not a huge fan of corporate America, and I know how they are, but I still can't wrap my head around this way of thinking.  In my opinion Bing was giving people a way to feel involved when they made their donation, as well as keeping ways to help fresh on everyone's minds.  Yes the tweet had @bing, ok well obviously they needed a way to track it, how about the link...the link is to a page in Microsoft that outlines what happened in Japan, what Microsoft is doing to help, and links to organizations that you can donate to to help out (American Red Cross, Save the Children, International Medical Corps, World Vision, NetHope, Mercy Corps, and AidMatrix)  I personally don't see anything wrong with this tweet, I know a lot of people were saying just donate the money, stop the marketing ploy and such, but the way I personally see things, Bing was going to donate the money anyway, however, this way people felt like they were involved in it and doing just a bit to help out.  I know that we all feel so helpless, and wish there was more we could do!  I will step down off of my soapbox now, people just amaze me...

Kroger Cart Buster Promotion!

Pin It Now!

We all know that in the scheme of the budget, groceries are right up there with putting gas in the car.  Kroger is helping out through March 12 with their awesome Cart Buster promotion!!  Not only have they been having some great deals, but they have also been hosting a "Deal of the Day." If you are one of the first 1000 people to click on the current deal of the day, you receive a free coupon automatically loaded to your shopper card for that item!  One of my favorite things about Kroger is the ability to log into your account and load coupons directly to your card.

I love couponing, but having to waste my paper and ink printing 3 huge coupons per page like most sites offer is almost more trouble than it is worth!  This way I can load lots of coupons to the card, then I can print a list of loaded coupons to take to the store with me!  It's a win/win!

As if sales and coupons weren't enough...One lucky reader will also receive a $25 Kroger gift card!!

Here is how to enter:

Be sure to leave a separate comment for each entry. The giveaway will run through 11:59pm eastern March 23.

The winner will be chosen using random.org, and announced March 24.

Entry 1 - What is your current favorite snack/indulgence?

Entry 2- Subscribe to my blog :)

Entry 3- Follow me on Twitter

Entry 4- Follow me on Facebook

Entry 5- Tweet about my giveaway, be sure to leave a link  :)

Entry 6 and beyond- Come back and leave a comment on this entry daily

Good luck everyone!!

Disclosure:  I was provided by the Kroger Family of Stores and General Mills/Nestle/P&G through MyBlogSpark with both a $25 Kroger gift card for myself, as well as a second $25 Kroger gift card to give to a lucky reader.

Pin It Now!

Last night I went to bed pretty satisfied...I remembered to send a few blog related e-mails, print our CSA agreement for the year, checked the The Hip Homeschool Forum to see if new members needed approval, scheduled a tweet for this morning, wished my DH Happy Anniversary after it was midnight...thought I was doing pretty well...that is until we woke up this morning.  I was still in bed when I overheard the conversation in the hallway...It went something like this...

Princess K: Do you know what the tooth fairy brought me?

Neil:  What did the tooth fairy bring you?

Princess K:  Nothing!

I promptly smacked my forehead a few times and buried my head under the pillow repeatedly asking myself how I could have forgotten something like that!!!  DAHH!  *sigh*  You have go to having a TOTAL mommy fail at 8am...before the day even starts!  UGH...I told her to leave her tooth under her pillow so she doesn't lose it, but I am secretly hoping the tooth fairy will sneak in and get the tooth today since she was SO busy last night!  Myst have been a busy tooth day yesterday!

Pin It Now!

Today Princess K both got a fat lip, and lost her top right tooth...Her tooth has been loose for months, but smacking it on her brothers bed this morning made it quite loose.  LOL  For some reason she had her head down by the mattress on his bed, Bubba B, unable to resist any one leaning over and showing their back, of course took the opportunity to jump on her, in turn making her smack her mouth on the wooden bed frame...That was while I was making lunch...She decided she wanted me to pull the tooth, however, it took multiple attempts over the course of the afternoon.  Finally all I needed was one more yank, and it popped out...and shot down to the bathroom floor.  After crawling around on my hands and knees with a flashlight looking for the offending tooth, I found it hiding cleverly under the step stool.

She was thrilled to have the tooth out, and I spent the evening trying to laugh as little as possible at her speech, although after I realized she also found it funny, I got her to repeatedly say the word thock, I mean sock.  LOL  I should also mention that while getting ready to go to the restaurant to show Daddy her fat lip and missing tooth, Bubba B managed to get a paper cut across his lip, then while eating dinner he bit his tongue....really I don't mind blood, but 4 injuries in one day is plenty  LOL

Counting down to that magical day...

Pin It Now!

Yes, I know this guy is paying taxes, and this post is all about getting tax money back, but seriously...who doesn't like Monopoly!  ;)

Yep, it's that time of year...the time of year when I check the bank account at least once a day waiting for that magical tax return money to be deposited!!  The sad part is that no matter how big that number initially may sound, when we start putting it on paper, it is gone WAAAYYYY too soon...at least that's how it works around here...For my top 10 Tuesday, I decided to let you all in on where that money is going in our household...

1.  Pay bills...I don't know about y'all, but money is tight around here, and this money is very much needed...

2.  New Carpet...the carpet in our living and dining room is dingy blue...I am sure at some point it looked nice, however, it was getting old when we moved in, and now 8 years later it has the wrinkles, and will not come clean...

3.  New Curriculum!!  This is one I am MAJORLY excited about!!  We have decided to go with Sonlight for our curriculum!  I am going to order both the P4/5 and K cores...I am planning to teach mainly from the K core, however that will give me the option to supplement some P4/5 with Bubba B.

4.    Princess K's dentist Appointment

5.  Kota's Vet Appointment  (including the soon to come snip snip)

6.  I am splurging this year on ME!!  I am saving up to buy a new DSLR since mine bit the dust last September, so I am putting a little of the tax return in my camera savings for my happy birthday to me!  LOL

7.  Paint for the Dining Room/School Room and Living room

If we have extra money, it will go towards...

8.  Kota's training...he is a good boy in general, however some obedience training will be welcome

9.  Lawn Mower...I really want an electric mower, however I am torn because I would love to have a John Deere mower  *blush*

10.  Kids Clothes...they have some things, but I still need to get their main wardrobe for the season...It would be nice to be able to get it done in one big shopping trip instead of getting a piece here and there...

Do you look forward to tax time??  What is your splurge his year?

We Did It, We Are Cable Tv/ Satellite Free!!

Pin It Now!

So after talking about it for months and months, we finally kicked DirecTv to the curb and went satellite/cable free about 2 months ago, and so far we love it!!  Now before you go thinking we are insane, or have gone TV free, that is not the case.  (Although I think people who have gone Tv free in their homes are awesome)  :)  The kids still have a Tv in their room so they can watch PBS kids and DVD's.  On that note I generally prefer PBS kids, and that is majority of what they watch by far.  In the living room we have our Apple TV hooked up, as well as have a blueray player, xbox 360, and Wii.

Apple TV MC572LL/A (2010)

So far we really like the Apple TV for playing both itunes and our streaming netflix shows and movies.  Also the Apple TV gives me access to podcasts, internet radio (I can listen to KLove on my TV which is awesome), and flickr (We have a screen saver of some of my flickr pics which plays when we have something paused for a while or are listening to the radio/podcasts).  One thing I don't quite understand, and do miss is the ability to play my audiobooks through the apple TV.  I am a member of Audible, and generally listen to my books through itunes.  For some reason even though itunes will seamlessly import the audible books, and you can play them on any ipod/iphone, Apple TV does not support the file format...it's just weird.

Although there have been a few times when there was something on TV we wanted to watch, however when you think about the money we are saving, whatever it was doesn't seem so important anymore.  :)

Pin It Now!

Hey y'all!  I can't be the only one who wishes I could rent a time machine (or the Tardis) and go back to my childhood to collect my favorite kids shows and toys...although some things (like the teal and black skirt with polka dots the size of baseballs)...well some things should die a peaceful death and never be spoken of again.

Anywho in honor of participating in my first ever Top Ten Friday, here is a list (in no particular order) of some of my favorite shows as a kid.
