Pin It Now!

Hey everyone!  I hope everyone had an awesome Thanksgiving!!  With everything crazy and hectic going on in my life, I welcome any sort of good news with open arms!  I got a nice surprise last week when I opened my mailbox, and tucked between the junk mail and bills was a card envelope.  Imagine my surprise when I opened the card to find myself staring back at me!!  I had almost forgotten about kneeling in a booth at BlogHer, amongst a decorated Christmas tree, and a mantle decorated for the holidays...in the begining of August!  LOL

Hallmark sent me a sample of their cards, complete with my picture from their booth on the front!  In addition to the coupon code they included for myself, they also were nice enough to include a discount code for my readers!!  To use the code, just got to Hallmark.com and use the code: Blogher30 to receive 30% off of your holiday card order!! This offer expires 12/31/10.

Hallmark.com has a wide selection of choices for customizing your cards.  There are MANY themes to choose from, as well as folded or flat cards, different fonts, colors, etc.

Hopefully you are ahead of me, and already have the perfect picture waiting to find its new home on your holiday greeting cards!  If you are like me and haven't even taken your holiday picture yet, maybe this will give you the incentive required for that kick in the butt!  :)

*The thought and opinions of the product are my own.  I was not compensated, other than a coupon code that will be used to partially pay for my order.

Sorry for the absence...

Pin It Now!

Hey everyone!  I do want to apologize for my absence from the blogging world for the past month.  I REALLY try not to post things that will bring my blog down, so instead I haven't been posting at all...I figured that instead of multiple lengthy semi depressing blog posts, I will stick to the short and sweet versions all in one post.  LOL  The following is a list of the good, the bad, and the ugly that has been going on in my life and in my head since the beginning of August.

1. I got to go to BlogHer '10 with one of my best friends Lis from A Trucker Wife, and we got to drive in a Brand New Chevy Equinox sponsored by Chevy!!

2. That Friday while in New York for BlogHer, I got a call from my mom letting me know that the following morning my grandmother was going in for brain surgery.  She had a hemotoma on each side of her brain that needed to be drained.

3.  Monday after returning from BlogHer we went to see my grandmom in the hospital.  While leaving the hospital at 9:30pm, Bubba B was walking through the parking lot with my mom about 25 yards behind Neil, Princess K and I.  Bubba B was trying to step on my moms shadow, their feet got tangled up resulting in both of them falling.  My mom pretty much fell on top of Bubba B, and when she did, her knee snapped his femur.

4.  My 3 year old energetic, can't sit still for 2 seconds baby boy was in a spica cast for 6 weeks!  Now, if you have never seen a spica cast, (which I hadn't until my baby was wearing one)  He was in a cast up to his ribs, down to his right ankle, and down to his left knee.  He was in a semi sitting position, and had a stabilizing bar connecting his legs around the knee area.

5.  We tried to buy a house so that we could start fresh with things...I SERIOUSLY need to go through everything in this house and get rid of like half of it!  Not only that, but we have equity in this current house that could make us debt free other than house and 1 truck payment...

6.  We failed at buying a house that would have made us debt free because our credit sucks...

7.  I have been holding together the sanity of the family b/c my husband is beyond over his job, SO I have been carrying the added stress on the inside and trying to be positive and keep him out of a funk the whole time he is home...

8.  Princess K finally got her allergy testing done...She is allergic to many things.  We knew she would be because Neil and I have both had allergies since we were very small, and Princess K and Bubba B have them as well...She is now on Singulair and a 20 day round of antibiotics for a sinus infection...

There is more, but that's all I can think of with this migraine...I know things could be TONS worse, and I really have been trying to stay positive with everything that has been going on, but it is seriously getting to the point where staying positive is kicking my butt...

My 3yr old Son's take on Star Wars...We have some work to do...

Pin It Now!

I just informed Neil that we have some SERIOUS work to do teaching Bubba B about Star Wars! My husband has been a BIG fan for quite some time, however the kids haven't really watched it yet...I just had this conversation with Bubba B...

(Bubba B walks into my room pointing a toothbrush holder at me, and using his super hero voice)

BB: I'm Mr. Star Wars!

Me: Mr. Star Wars huh?

BB:  Yep, and this is my dad...umm... *whispers*  Mommy...What's the fellows name in the suit?

Me: you mean the one in black?

BB: Yep

Me: Darth Vader

BB: *back to using his super hero voice*  And this is my dad...Darth Vader...He fights crime, but sometimes he fights me...

Me:  *Trying my best not to laugh*  Ok then

That's when I promptly walked into the kitchen to inform my husband of the work lying ahead!  LOL

My first official Homeschool Post...

Pin It Now!

Well here it is!!  My first official homeschool post!!  This is our first year homeschooling our kids  :)  Princess K attended K-3 and K-4 at a local christian school, and even though we liked the school, homeschooling is something that we have been wanting to do for years!  Thankfully the stars aligned and I was able to quit my job in March to stay at home with the kids.  That decision in itself has been a testament that God knows what he is doing!  Since I quit in March, My grandmothers health declined, and I have stayed with her many days...thankfully after 2 surgeries she is doing better, also there was the fact that Bubba B broke his femur in August...it has been a rough few months to say the least...I have been SO grateful to be staying home and have the opportunity to homeschool!  We are certainly no pros at it yet!  Before Bubba B's accident I was getting ready to order their curriculum packages from Sonlight.  I had been reading reviews for months, attended their webinar, and had decided they were the company I wanted to go with...WELL after he broke his leg, I had visions of medical bills dancing through my head, and knew that my dream of Sonlight curriculum was out the window....that spun me into a frenzy of researching different curricula, trying to piece together workbooks and curricula for different subjects...Although we are about a month into our school year, I still need to get a few things, and have thought about switching to a boxed curriculum after all... Advice and feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

I have thought about using this for Bubba B...

This storm has been bad at times...It's weird that it varies from a drizzle and no wind, to crazy wind and rain, and back again...We are supposed to get rain throughout the night...Our garage currently has 1.5 inches of water standing in the entire thing, which doesn't sound too bad, but it is...Thankfully we generally only get a storm like this once a year or so

Pin It Now!

Ok, so you all probably know by now, but I can be a little slow on the uptake sometimes...I have been lying in bed, wishing my internet was working so I could blog, when all of a sudden it hit me that I could actually write an entry tonight to post tomorrow...yeah I know...SLOW on the uptake!  Anyhow, hello beautiful blog!  Oh how I have missed thee!  I will be writing a catch up post (or a handful of them) over the next week or so since I have been such a slacker over the last month or so...I feel like I have let you all down, and it sucks that the time in my life that I REALLY could have leaned on the support of my readers and fellow bloggers, I haven’t had time.  August 2010 brought a variety of major events into my life...BlogHer ’10 was AWESOME!  I had an amazing time, met some amazing women, ALMOST saw the Pioneer Woman in real life, heard some great stories, and got to share it with one of my best friends, Lis from A Trucker Wife.  Unfortunately the rest of the month didn’t go as well.  I would like to stop here and interject that everything will be ok, and things could have been MUCH worse. Like I said, details will follow in the next day or so, but the rest of August saw us living at my Mom and Grandmothers house for the month, trying to help out while my Grandmother was in the hospital/rehab, all the while taking care of Bubba B, who at 3 years, 4 months old broke his femur.  It was a rough month...Thankfully my brain is just starting to reboot, and I feel like blogging again!  I have had SO much craziness going on through my head that whenever I did have the opportunity to sit down to a computer, I just wanted to surf other peoples blogs...I guess I just needed that time to “run away” a bit, not relive what was going on in my life...I honestly don’t know if that makes since, and I feel like I need to apologize for feeling that way.  I think my head was filled to capacity, and I really would have had to work at getting out a coherent blog post...ANYWHO here I am!  Back from the brink of insanity, back home, back to SOME since of normalcy...back to blogging!!  :)

Well here we are...It is officially September!  I seriously don't know where this year has gone!  Christmas is only a few months away!!!  I know I am VERY behind on my blogging, and believe me, I am working on getting caught up, HOWEVER I cannot thoroughly enough express my joy that August is GONE!  I REALLY try not to wish time away...it certainly goes by fast enough as it is, BUT August has been hellacious for us!  :(  Not only am I a month behind on my blogging, but I also am still working on editing pictures for a wedding I shot for my cousin at the beginning of August!  I will catch you all up soon on the happenings of August, as well as I will be launching the newest section of my blog...It will be centered on our homeschooling journey!!  Say prayers and wish me luck on that one, it is our first year as a homeschooling family!!  I hope that y'all had an awesome August '10, and if not, you will join me in saying adios to that crappy month and HELLO to September!  It is not only a new day, but a new month, let's wipe that slate clean and start off on the right foot!!

Smart and Trendy Moms

One thing I have noticed about cleaning...

Pin It Now!

Of all things I know about cleaning, one thing is for certain.  If you have small children, they can be in there room, completely consumed by their toys, but as soon as you pick up a cleaning implement, or heaven forbid start the vacuum, it is ALL over!  They run in the room, determined to help you out, whether you want them to or not.  Now don't get me wrong, on normal cleaning days, when the house is halfway straight and such this is not a bad thing.  The problem comes however, when your house is in such bad shape, you try to tread quietly for fear the surrounding mess may open up and swallow you whole.  That is how my house is right now to put it mildly.  My house pretty much went completely under in the weeks I was finishing my job, then even more mess got piled on in the last few weeks of my semester.

In the perfect dream world that I sometimes slip into, my day was great...my house was clean, and I decided to dust, my sweet eager kids came running in to help, and one sprayed the dusting spray, while the other wiped...can't you just hear the birds chirping, and the woodland creatures at the door?  UNFORTUNATELY, I live in the real world where the mess is so big that I don't even know where to start cleaning.  When I finally decided to vacuum all the birdseed from around Molly's cage, and dust the end table that sits beside her cage that constantly gets littered with seed casings and rogue water from her bowl.  As soon as the vacuum started they ran in and swarmed me...one grabbed their play Dyson and was on his knees beside me, while the other was calling my name every 5 seconds asking when she could clean the TV.  As soon as I was done vacuuming, I did let them spray some of the cleaners (we use non toxic cleaners) for me while I wiped.

Hopefully, soon I will be able to get this house in shape, and the dream scenario can ensue.  I will love it when it comes to that point b/c I can start their training in housework so that they may become experts in dusting and vacuuming just in time for them to decide that it is too much work, and they want to do other things instead.  Right now I just have to grin and bear all the stresses of a 3 and 5 year old "helping" me clean, even when it means days like today when I was very close to picking up the phone to call the judge to see if there were legal proceedings necessary to change my name from mommy.  Because even on stressful days like today, I sit in the rocker in their room as they dream about dinosaurs and rainbow unicorns and wonder why I was so stressed earlier.  I sit here in a dark room, listening to their heavy rhythmic breathing while blogging, not in tears because this day was so stressful, but with a tear on my lid because they are already growing so fast, and there is no pause button.  I can't afford to be stressed at these times until I finally get my house straight because I will look back at all of the time I wasted, with me being stressed and while I wait for my two little helpers to come and spray and wipe, they will be out with friends, or at college...and I will be left wondering what I was even stressed about...

Papers, Papers, EVERYWHERE!!!

Pin It Now!

Ok so to say that my house is so messy that I can't find the furniture is an understatement right now!  I had a hard time trying to keep up with the house while I was working full time, then I added school on top of it and I forgot what housework was...Now that I am not working and not in school, the mess is still here, and I swear every time I tackle it for an hour or so I only anger it.

One of our biggest sources of clutter of the paper kind are Princess K's school papers.  She is finishing up her second year of school, and I have kept about 95% of ALL of her papers that have been sent home!!  It may only be me, but I feel horrible throwing part of her school career in the trashcan.  The problem with this is that we have never established a set place to put these papers, and I haven't really put the ones from last year anywhere other than in a pile.

In retrospect, I should have written the date on the papers, so you could see her improvement, but of course I thought of that 2 days before school is out.  How long do you keep your kids' school papers and projects, and how do you store them??  I have heard of people scanning them, which is an awesome idea, but that takes LOTS of time, and is it really the same thing??  part of the sentimental value is to be able to pull them out when they are crazy teens and hold them...remembering the handwriting, and the days when they were young and innocent... *sigh*

Blah kind of day...

Coffee with a friend and a new find in an old city...

Pin It Now!

I actually got some adult relaxation time today!!  Lis from A Trucker Wife and I went downtown to try out a coffee shop that we hadn't been to.  We were in need of quality adult girl time...we were overdue!  It was a beautiful day outside so we sat and ate our sandwiches for lunch and drank our mochas.  :)  While sitting there a small school group passed by with notebooks.  The teacher was pointing out the different architecture of the many historic buildings, we heard her point out something with roman roots.  I admit that we both seriously were brainstorming if there was a way for us to join the small group without being noticed...After sitting out front of the coffee shop for a few hours it was time to leave, but there was no way we were not looking for the Roman architecture before leaving.

Check that out!  I can't tell you how many times I have walked and driven past this building and NEVER noticed this!  How cool is that?!?!  It's just a reminder that sometimes we get comfortable in our surroundings and forget to look around and appreciate the beauty of our cities.  :D

I can't tell you how excited I am that I am going to New York in August for the Blogher 2010 conference!!  I can't wait!  It is going to be so much fun, as well as VERY informative...not to mention I get to go with one of my most awesome friends Lis from www.atruckerwife.com  ;D  There will be more info to come on my trip to Blogher...  I did add a chipin widget to my blog incase anyone is feeling super generous (or just won the lottery), but I want to stress to everyone...DO NOT FEEL OBLIGATED.  I hope everyone has been doing well  :)  more blog entries to come!...just not right now because it is 2am...  ZZZzzzzzz......

Yes, I love vampires...but I don't need a 12 step program...

Pin It Now!

Ok so here it is...a vampire post! Some of you will jump up and down at the sight of it, others will groan...as I was in the shower I had the thought that I may pick up the Twilight series and read them again...that thought wouldn't be odd, except for the fact that it would be my fourth time reading the series. Here is the point that I might should also admit that I have read the Vampire Diaries series twice... Given those two facts, you may begin to assume that I am one of these crazed fans that is obsessed with all things Vampire...Here are the facts:

1. I love the Twilight and Vampire Diaries series'

2. I am and always be Team Edward

3. Although I am totally on Team Edward, there is no denying it that Taylor Lautner is WAY hotter than Robert Pattinson

4. Although Taylor is WAY hotter (see above)...it is impossible for me to forget how young he actually is considering he was Shark Boy!

5. Although I am not fawning over Robert Pattinson, give me Paul Wesley or Ian Somerhalder any day!! *drool*
6. I do not own any Twilight shirts, bags, button
s, underwear, or other memorabilia...

7. Although I love the books, and have drooled over all of the movie previews...so far I have yet to see one of them in the theater...

8. Even though #5 is accurate, I feel the need to mention that I did buy an Edward candy bar tonight at Walgreens...I am not however keeping the wrapper

9. The Twilight books were WAY better than the movies

I am not going to rush out and buy "The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella", however I would love Stephenie Meyer forever if she would finish "Midnight Sun".

And in closing I would like to point out that I am not a complete vampire freak, although I love reading the series'.

...and the fact that I am the owner of the Vampire Diaries group on Sparkpeople.com proves NOTHING ;) Have a great night!!

Pin It Now!

Today is my anniversary, but I am going to postpone that post for a few days to share something more important. If you haven't already, today is the day to "Spread the word to end the word". I have never been one to use the r-word, in fact it has never come out of my mouth with a negative meaning...I seriously think that it has come out of my mouth like twice ever, and only using it for it's actual definition. ANYWAY the power of words it GREAT! Words can easily build you up, or even easier tear you down. Even when you are just throwing a word out there in a "harmless" manor, you can greatly offend the people around you.

I have NEVER liked the r-word, and this subject hits close to home for me. I have a cousin who was born with Down Syndrome. Although I don't get to see him very much, I LOVE my cousin, and am SOO proud of him. I really can't imagine him being any other way, and am SO proud of him for many things, one of which is GRADUATING high school this year!!!

Even though March 3rd is the date noted, this is an ongoing campaign! PLEASE visit http://www.r-word.org to show your support.

Pledge to Show Respect
When you say “retard” or “retarded,”
you marginalize and insult millions of people
with intellectual disabilities, their families and friends.
Please, don’t use the R-word.

Ok so now down to business...don't give up on me, don't delete me from your google readers just yet.

I will soon be switching something else on my bio....I am going from full time worker and student, to just full time student!!! ...well and wife and mommy :D

I REALLY am going to try to do better on keeping you all updated on my random mommy ramblings...Just don't give up on me...

I have plans for this blog....plans for a challenge, more reviews, some giveaways....

I really appreciate everyone who is still here!!

Thank You! :)
